Life Events

Need to make a change to your benefits mid year?

A qualifying event allows you to make applicable changes to your benefit elections, such as adding or removing dependents from the plan within 30 days of the qualifying event.

Benefits coverage due to a life event is effective on the life event date.

For example, if you lose coverage on January 1st, then benefits coverage with Attentive will become effective January 1st and you have 30 days from January 1st to make your benefit elections.

Typical qualifying events include:

  • Marriage, divorce, termination of a qualified domestic partnership
  • Birth or adoption of a child
  • Death of a spouse or dependent
  • End in your spouse’s employment or group insurance coverage

A residential move that impacts eligibility

  • Moving into CA would make you eligible for Kaiser coverage
  • Moving out of CA/outside of the Kaiser service area allows you to enroll in Cigna
